About Killer Sudoku
Sample Board Example layout of a Killer Sudoku board. Note the nine regions marked by thick borders and the small colored areas known as cages.

Killer Sudoku is a logic-based puzzle game with a bit of math thrown in. Unlike Classic Sodoku in which the value of certain squares is provided outright, in Killer Sudoku the numbers provided represent a total value of one or more squares added together.

The playing board is a 9x9 grid of squares, for 81 squares total. The squares are grouped into "regions" or "blocks," each of which contains nine squares. Thus the entire board contains nine regions, arranged in a 3x3 grid. In addition, each square belongs to a smaller grouping known as a "cage." (See image at right).

The player must place digits in the squares so that each column, row, region and cage contains exactly one each of the digits 1 through 9. The sum of all digits within a cage must also match the small number in the upper left corner of that cage. The puzzle is solved when all of the squares have been filled.

Players must use logic and a variety of elimination techniques to solve the puzzle in the least possible amount of time.
